Paul Weller ...

guested on VH1 Classic today, he was asked the usual wehite noise about 'your new album is more rocking than the past couple have been,' et cetera.

I found his cheeky insouciance right in keeping with the usual Modernist ethic - always leave 'em wanting more. Then they played a couple of his old bits and I *finally* got to see the Blur video for "Parklife" which featured the actor from Quadrophenia who played Jimmy, that was rich.

"LOS ANGELES (Reuters) - The two surviving members of The Who are producing a documentary about the British rock band's turbulent history, an ongoing 40-year saga of death, drugs and timeless music.

Guitarist/songwriter Pete Townshend and singer Roger Daltrey have joined forces on the feature-length project with director Murray Lerner, an Oscar-winning documentary director who first filmed the band during the 1970 Isle of Wight festival.

...

To that end, the filmmakers have set up a Web site, www.thewhomovie.com, seeking material from fans."

I got some DVDs of some 60s movies from 5minutestolive.com

Who Are You Polly Magoo?

French satire on the fashion world. Unfortunately it's in french. there is a subtitle version but the film/sound quality is horrible. kinda sucks, unless you want to be a pretend intellectual and sit around and watch movies in french (that's very mod actually).

All Around The Mullberry Bush

Pretty cheezy but has some cool scenes, and the fashion is pretty good, and has a pretty good mod soundtrack. Film quality is good.

Dateline Diamonds

I talked about this one on the small faces tribe too. The quality is decent. The movie is basicly a pop music exploitation movie. the story is really not important they just wanted a movie with some 60s pop stars. mainly The Small Faces at their mod best. The DVD is worth it for the Small Faces Bonus footage alone (it's like two tv specials and some more videos, I mean I didn't even realize you could get this much video of a 60s band, it's pretty awesome). The quality of the bonus stuff is actually better than the movie (pretty much equivalent to VHS tape).

A Degree of Murder

This is the Anita Pallenburg movie Brian Jones (the rolling stone) did the music for. It's actually a pretty good movie. Film quality is good.

"Signs of the Times: Life in the Swingin' Sixties at the LBJ Library and Museum (December 18, 2004 - August 28, 2005) is an exhibition that captures all of the excitement of the 1960s in every area of American popular culture: from the "British Invasion," Motown, and Psychedelic music to the fashions of go-go dancers, mods and hippies - from the cutting edge comedians and sports personalities to the campy TV shows (and commercials) - and from the "hip" books and movies of a generation to the crass consumerism that became the essence of pop art.

ACEFACE Threat Level: RedWhiteBlue (Fading Ways)
They've got the suits and the skinny ties, but rather than simply being a high-fashion mod revival, Toronto's Aceface have something to say to back up their '60s U.K. attire. Principal songwriter and musical prodigy Carl Nanders uses the band's debut to create a lefty's freak-out jam session, rallying against war, fear and manufactured consent. Chomsky and Fisk get props in the liner notes and Nanders and his organ-boogie rock symphony don’t shy away from some thick and catchy music to complement the intelligent lyrical material. Book-smart rockers can get a bit pretentious at times; luckily, this tambourine-jiggling throwback is a readathon with a very welcome ass-shaking twistathon.. Brian Wong

Anyone else seen this little-known indie film? It's set in NYC, for the most part, in the late Nineties, I believe. I rather enjoyed it. The neo-Mod band "Headquarters" provided the rather rousing on-screen tunes.

Neo mod Pas/cal and the Record Release party

Advertised as a record release party for the new Pascal album Oh Honey, We're Ridiculous... I was a little disappointed when i went and found that the new record was late. I started to huff and to puff, but lead singer Caz stuffed a Pascal sugar cookie in my mouth and consoled me by promising to shower all their biggest fans (that's me and only me) with the new record at their Holiday Release Party. Anyway, the show was still a success. French blues rock band Bisou Bisou played first and wowed the crowd with animated happy blues that none of us could sing along to. Then another band that was very forgettable. I can only remember saying " i love this belle and sebastian song." Finally, Pascal came to a fantastic rescue and threw many white carnations in the air and played a rousing set. We were all very cheerful by the end, even the most pretentious were clapping like walruses. If you would like to discover the Odd world of pas/cal, go to pascalgoespop.com
